Used Car Import Rules & Regulations

• • Age restriction: No age limit for importing used vehicles from the UAE.
• • Additional excise duties: Used motor vehicles that are 8 years or older (calculated from the year of manufacture) incur additional excise duties.
• • Effective date: From 1st July 2014, vehicles older than 8 years are subject to the new age restriction and related excise duties.
• • Inspection: EAA inspection is mandatory for vehicles imported from the UAE.
• • Required certificate: Ensure the vehicle has passed EAA inspection in the UAE; the EAA certificate is required for customs clearance and should be included with shipping documents.

Destination Port & Shipping

• • Primary destination port: Dar Es Salaam.
• • Shipping method: RORO, approximately 24-34 days for delivery.
• • Vessel schedule: RORO shipping scheduled monthly from the UAE to Tanzania.
• • Shipping line: Hoegh Autoliners.

Excise Duty, Import Duty & VAT

• • Import duty (base): 25% for used vehicles.
• • VAT: 20%.

Used Cars Import Documentation in Tanzania

• • Bill of lading.
• • Export certificate.
• • Proforma invoice.
• • JEVIC (UAE Export Vehicle Inspection Center).
• • QISJ (Quality Inspection Service UAE).
• • Agent's authorization letter (from the importer).
• • Import permits from relevant authorities such as TFDA (Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority) and TBS (Tanzania Bureau of Standards), as necessary.
